The Gregorio Marañón Hospital of the Community of Madrid has organized the central day of the 5th edition of EcoMarañón. This initiative aims to foster environmentally friendly practices among patients, users, and professionals of the healthcare complex, coinciding with the commemoration of World Environment Day.
An information tent has been set up on the hospital grounds with educational booths on climate change and the health consequences of ecosystem degradation. The goal is to highlight the Gregorio Marañón's environmental measures and raise awareness about daily actions to minimize human impact on the environment.
The hospital's Environmental Management Unit has promoted various awareness initiatives throughout the week. The fifth edition of EcoMarañón has benefited from the collaboration of the Ministry of Environment, Agriculture, and Interior, and the Network of Environmental Education Centers of the Community of Madrid.
Activities, aimed at patients in Geriatrics, Pediatric Nephrology, the Adolescent Psychiatry Unit, and the Hospital School, include a bird identification workshop, the creation of insect hotels, and the 'Laboreando palabras' initiative to preserve the oral heritage of the elderly.
The Gregorio Marañón Hospital is developing the 'Plan Azul Marañón,' a pioneering strategic project in the healthcare system aimed at reducing the environmental impact of hospital activities, improving resource efficiency, and fostering greater awareness among professionals, patients, and users. This plan was recently recognized at the XXXVI edition of the Avedis Donabedian Awards for Quality 2026.
