The Official College of Architects of Madrid (COAM) will host a dual exhibition combining PHotoESPAÑA and FUJIKINA, the Fujifilm European Photography Festival, from April 29 to May 24.

One of the exhibitions, titled Lo que nace (What is Born), is part of the official program of PHotoESPAÑA 2026 and traces the artistic journey of photographer Matías Costa. This Argentine artist was the first recipient of the festival's Discoveries award in 1998, and his work reflects the transformation of contemporary photography over recent decades.
Costa's work is characterized by a blend of documentary and introspective perspectives, utilizing images, archives, and writing to construct narratives centered on memory and identity. His pieces explore the influence of life experiences and the notion of a fragmented emotional legacy.
In parallel, the second exhibition features works by renowned contemporary photographers such as Samuel Aranda, Estela de Castro, Toni Amengual, Álvaro Sanz, and Nerea Garro. These artists explore themes like identity, territory, family ties, and daily life through their images.
This second proposal serves as an epilogue that dialogues with Costa's career and the evolution of the photographic medium, offering a preview of the perspectives that will be featured at the international FUJIKINA Madrid 2026 event, scheduled for May 23 and 24 in the capital.
With this dual initiative, Madrid solidifies its position as a meeting point for various generations of photographers, providing a journey that connects the origins of fostering new talent with current trends in contemporary photography.
