The Community of Madrid has completed the connection of the excavation fronts for Metro Line 11 between Comillas and the future Madrid Río station with the arrival of the tunnel boring machine Mayrit.

This technical breakthrough, known as 'cale', was overseen by the Minister of Housing, Transport, and Infrastructure, Jorge Rodrigo, and confirms the correct alignment and precision of the work carried out from both ends. The operation marks the completion of the tunnel connecting these two points, passing under the M-30 and the Manzanares river.
The tunnel boring machine Mayrit, manufactured in Germany and equipped with state-of-the-art technology, began its journey on March 26. Since then, it has excavated 1,116 meters, installing 656 rings that form the definitive lining of the underground infrastructure. The machine maintains an average progress rate of 15 meters per day, occasionally reaching 30.
The extension of Line 11 will transform this infrastructure into a key diagonal axis of the Metro network, eventually connecting Cuatro Vientos and Valdebebas. This expansion aims to improve connections, reduce travel times, and offer new transport alternatives to millions of users in the Community of Madrid.
