The Minister of Housing, Transport, and Infrastructure, Jorge Rodrigo, on Thursday censured the management of the Cercanías network by the Minister of Transport and Sustainable Mobility, Óscar Puente, citing over 650 incidents recorded on the network since the beginning of the year.
These statements followed complaints made by the mayor of Colmenar Viejo, Carlos Blázquez, to Renfe regarding "continuous incidents" on the C-4 line of Madrid's Cercanías commuter rail. The minister demanded solutions to the "delays and cancellations" affecting the service.
Rodrigo denounced a constant "uncertainty" for citizens due to the accumulation of incidents, attributing the situation to a minister who, in his view, is not "managing what he needs to manage" but rather "attacking users".
“"I urged him to resign if he does not intend to do so"
The minister called on the minister to take responsibility and stressed the need for him to "work... for all Spaniards and for all Madrileños in transport infrastructure".
Furthermore, Rodrigo reiterated the demand for increased funding for the Cercanías network and public infrastructure in general, lamenting the lack of investment in roads and stating that if they do not know how to manage, "they should leave, someone who knows how will come".
