The celebration of the Spanish national football team's World Cup title will cause significant traffic closures in the center of Madrid this Monday, between 6:00 PM and 11:00 PM. The Plaza de Cibeles and its surroundings will be the epicenter of the festivities, which are expected to draw over 60,000 people.
Preparations for the stage setup in Cibeles began at midnight and will continue until Tuesday morning, affecting traffic from early in the day. Affected routes include Cibeles, Paseo de Recoletos, Paseo del Prado (between Neptuno and Cibeles), Calle Alcalá (between Cibeles and Plaza de la Independencia, and between the latter and Calle de Cedaceros), and Gran Vía (between Alcalá and Hortaleza).
These traffic closures may be extended or modified depending on crowd levels and decisions made by security personnel. Gran Vía, in particular, will impact mobility in areas such as Plaza de España, Princesa, and Ventura Rodríguez.
The use of public transport is strongly recommended. Metro lines 1, 2, 3, and 4 will increase their service, with extra staff at stations to assist travelers. However, the Banco de España station will be closed for security reasons. Several EMT bus lines will alter their routes, and up to ten additional buses will be deployed during the celebration hours.
Public bicycles from Bicimad will also face restrictions, with several stations out of service in key areas like Cibeles, Recoletos, Colón, and Banco de España. It is advisable to check the official Bicimad map before traveling. Parking facilities at Serrano III, Sevilla, Recoletos, Las Cortes, and Plaza del Rey may also be affected by diversions.
Several taxi stands in the city center will be suspended, including those located at Paseo del Prado, Plaza de la Lealtad, Barquillo, Marqués de Casa Riera, and Clavel. It is recommended to plan travel in advance and opt for public transport.
