The Governing Council of the Community of Madrid has given the green light for the renovation works of the Juan de Herrera building, belonging to the José Echegaray Public School of Early Childhood, Primary, and Secondary Education, located in the Madrid district of Villa de Vallecas. The regional Executive will allocate more than 1.6 million euros to this project.
The intervention, managed by the Ministry of Education, Science, and Universities, will have an execution period of five months. Its objective is to optimize the urbanization and functionality of the property, as well as to improve the general condition of its infrastructures.
In the exterior area of the ground floor, which houses the dining hall and gymnasium, the cladding will be renewed and the current aluminum carpentry will be replaced. Internally, interventions will be made on the facades and restrooms, a new access door to the pantry will be opened, and false ceilings will be dismantled to incorporate additional insulation. The works will also include the installation of new sports flooring over the existing one, the renovation of the electrical system and lighting, as well as the polishing of floors and painting of the different rooms.
On the first floor, restrooms will be renovated, classrooms and offices will be clad with new panels, and fixed windows illuminating the corridors will be replaced. Likewise, the false ceiling will be rehabilitated, the electrical installation updated, and polishing and painting work carried out in the various spaces of the building.
These actions are part of the Educational Infrastructure Plan of the Community of Madrid. During the current legislature, this plan has enabled the completion of 78 works throughout the Community of Madrid, including 12 new buildings and 66 extensions, representing an investment of over 231 million euros and the creation of more than 16,000 educational places.
