Community of Madrid Awards 14 Figures and Institutions with the Grand Cross of Dos de Mayo

Enrique Cerezo, Carlos Sainz Jr., Audrey Pascual, and the Vuelta Ciclista a España are among those honored for their careers.

The Governing Council of the Community of Madrid has announced the 14 recipients of the Grand Cross of the Order of Dos de Mayo, acknowledging their professional careers, solidarity, and exemplary contributions.

The award ceremony will take place on May 2nd at the Real Casa de Correos, headquarters of the regional government, during the institutional act for the Day of the Community of Madrid. The event will be presided over by President Isabel Díaz Ayuso.
Among this year's honorees, Enrique Cerezo stands out, recognized for his leadership as president of Atlético de Madrid since 2003, driving the club's modernization and international projection. His work as an entrepreneur and film producer, crucial for the preservation of Spanish audiovisual heritage, is also highlighted.
Formula 1 driver Carlos Sainz Jr. will receive the Grand Cross for his perseverance and professionalism, establishing himself as a sports icon and ambassador for Madrid's sport globally. Similarly, Madrid-born Paralympic skier Audrey Pascual will be honored for her two world championships, which position her as a role model for overcoming challenges and promoting inclusion in adaptive sports.
The Vuelta Ciclista a España and its director, Francisco Javier Guillén Bedoya, will also be recognized for their contribution to sports development and the promotion of Spain, including the Community of Madrid, where the race traditionally concludes and is organized, being one of the three most important cycling competitions in the world.
In the cultural sphere, painter Augusto Ferrer-Dalmau, a leading exponent of historical painting in Spain, will be recognized for revitalizing interest in history and cultural heritage through his works. Journalist César Lumbreras will receive the Grand Cross for his over four decades of giving a voice to the rural world as director of the Agropopular program on COPE radio since 1984.
Professionals from the Wildlife Recovery Center (CRAS) will be awarded for their dedicated work in caring for wild fauna, essential for the conservation of Madrid's biodiversity. In the socio-health sector, Miguel Carballeda, president of ONCE, will be honored for his model of inclusion and autonomy for people with disabilities. José Eugenio Guerrero, an intensive care physician and head of the ICU at Gregorio Marañón Hospital, will also be recognized for his career and his role during the pandemic.
The multinational IBM and the Hospital Universitario San Francisco de Asís will receive the award for their centenaries, highlighting IBM's historical relationship with the region and the hospital's healthcare vocation. The confectionery company La Pajarita, a symbol of traditional commerce since 1852, will be recognized for maintaining its artisanal quality. Finally, Club Metrópoli, part of Grupo Paraguas, will be awarded for revitalizing the Metrópolis Building, integrating heritage, gastronomy, and culture. The twelve students from IES Humanejos de Parla, known as Los vigilantes de Parla, will receive the distinction for their bravery in saving a woman's life in Ireland during a school trip.
