The Community of Madrid has consolidated the expansion of 5G coverage in the region, increasing from 92% at the beginning of the legislature to the current 99.6%, which represents practically universal implementation. This progress is detailed in an oral report prepared by the Ministry of Digitalization and reviewed by the Governing Council, which analyzes the evolution of digital infrastructures between 2023 and 2026.
Connectivity in the Community of Madrid has experienced decisive progress with the extension of FTTH (Fiber to the Home) fiber optic networks, which now reach 99.9%. This development allows for ultra-fast and stable connections directly to homes. The report indicates that 85% of municipalities have coverage exceeding 95%. Additionally, the regional Executive has launched public programs in recent years, such as UNICO Broadband, with the aim of bringing the ten localities that have not yet reached this percentage to similar levels in the short term.
Similarly, access to audiovisual services has been strengthened with a new contract to extend digital terrestrial television coverage in remote and peri-urban areas, benefiting nearly 400,000 citizens. This action ensures the reception of all channels under optimal quality and reliability conditions, even in geographically challenging areas.
The advancement of 5G is reflected not only in its wide availability but also in the improvement of service quality, thanks to the deployment of more advanced networks that enable faster, more stable connections with greater capacity to manage a growing volume of devices and data. Investments, through the UNICO programs funded by European Next Generation funds, have mobilized approximately 21 million euros in this area.
