The National Center for Cardiovascular Research Carlos III (CNIC) will actively participate in the European Congress of Cardiology 2026 (ESC Congress 2026), presenting a comprehensive scientific agenda.

The CNIC will have a notable presence at the event, including the presentation of key clinical trials, basic and translational research, European consensus documents, keynote lectures, round tables, clinical sessions, and session presidencies.
The center's participation covers various areas of cardiology. Highlights include presentations on clearing amyloid deposits, non-conventional risk factors such as depression, the impact of empagliflozin on pulmonary hypertension, and complex clinical cases of non-bacterial endocarditis.
Topics such as clonal hematopoiesis as a new cardiovascular risk factor, cardiovascular care for women worldwide, and the management of 'clot in transit' and pulmonary embolism cases will also be addressed. The secrets of successful cardiovascular aging and the role of HDL in protecting against atherosclerosis will be explored.
The congress will also feature sessions on automated decision-making in medicine, the use of machine learning and generative models, interpretation of genetic variants, and family risk assessment. Tools for precision cardiovascular prevention will be presented, and advances in cardiovascular prevention in 2026 will be debated.
Artificial intelligence and its application in clinical trials and precision medicine will be another focus, with presentations on automated data extraction and its use in post-acute coronary syndrome patients. Discussions will also cover care models in cardio-oncology and real-world pulmonary hypertension.
The congress will include sessions dedicated to illustrative clinical cases of cardiovascular disease in women, young investigator awards in this area, and debates on heart failure prevention. The latest advances in dilated cardiomyopathy and the efficacy of therapies for transthyretin amyloidosis will be presented.
Finally, cardiovascular prevention in children and adolescents, biological mechanisms of ischemia-reperfusion injury, and the integration of well-being and work-life balance for healthcare professionals will be addressed. The use of beta-blockers in post-infarction patients with preserved ejection fraction will be debated.
