The Madrid City Council has announced the complete closure of the Conde de Casal tunnel from this Friday, May 8, until February 2027, due to the construction of a new interchange and the connection of Metro lines 6 and 11.

This prolonged measure aims to facilitate the works being carried out by the Community of Madrid for a key public transport infrastructure in the capital. The closure will lead to significant changes in traffic patterns and bus services.
To alleviate traffic congestion, surface routes will be used. Two entry lanes from the A-3 towards Conde de Casal will be opened, along with one exit lane towards the A-3 (Valencia direction) and the M-30 North. Additionally, the number of entry lanes to Madrid from the A-3 will be reduced from two to one before the M-30 bridge, though the exit ramp from the M-30 to Conde de Casal will remain open.
In Plaza del Conde de Casal, two specific turns will be prohibited: the left turn towards O’Donnell via Doctor Esquerdo, and the left turn from Doctor Esquerdo towards Avenida del Mediterráneo and Glorieta de Mariano de Cavia. Work to implement these new traffic configurations will begin at 00:00 hours on May 8, with a complete traffic cut-off for access and exit to the A-3 via Conde de Casal until 6:00 hours on the same day.

"Citizens are advised to avoid the affected area and use alternative routes such as the M-40 for long-distance journeys."

The construction will also impact several EMT Madrid bus lines. Line E will relocate its stop on Avenida del Mediterráneo to a new location in Plaza del Conde de Casal. Lines 63, 143, 145, and N9 will temporarily suspend several intermediate stops, while the termini for lines 20, 30, and 140 will be moved within the Pavones intermodal area.
A special deployment of Municipal Police and Mobility Agents will be in place to minimize disruption. Authorities recommend prioritizing public transport and avoiding private vehicles in the Conde de Casal area during the works.
