The service interruption on Madrid Metro's Line 10, which is expected to last until December, has impacted key stations such as Nuevos Ministerios, Santiago Bernabéu, and Cuzco, all located along the Paseo de la Castellana, a central area in the capital with a high concentration of offices and businesses.
To alleviate the impact on users, a free substitute bus service, EMT's Line S10, has been implemented, connecting Plaza de Castilla with Nuevos Ministerios. This service averages 34,000 daily passengers on weekdays, having transported up to 181,000 users between March 28 and April 6.
During the first month of works, from March 28 to April 28, the Metro network recorded a total of 63.5 million entries. Line 1 was the most used, with over 10 million passengers, representing 15.83% of the total and an increase of 7.97% in its daily ridership. Line 9 also saw a growth of 7.29%.
Despite Line 10 remaining operational in other sections, it concluded the month with a significant drop in users, losing approximately 61,000 daily passengers. Other lines, such as Line 8 and Line 11, also registered increases of 7.04% and 3.54% respectively, while lines 7 and 4 experienced slight decreases.
“"The works must be endured, although they will serve to improve the quality of life for Madrid residents."
The works, with an investment exceeding 60 million euros, include the construction of a new station near Santiago Bernabéu. This station will be 100% accessible, triple its space, and incorporate technological advancements such as 4.0 entry turnstiles. It is expected to be completed in the first quarter of 2027 and will become a key hub in the network, prepared to handle high passenger volumes, especially during sporting events and major happenings.
