The main mobilization will start at 12:00 PM from Gran Vía (corner of Alcalá Street) and will conclude at Plaza de España. Organizers emphasize that the protest comes at a crucial moment, where not only the living conditions of the working class are at stake, but also the democratic quality itself.
“"Against those who seek to divide us, confront us, and build trenches, the trade union movement responds with more rights, more social cohesion, and more democracy."
One of the central demands is housing, described as a «social emergency». The unions criticize the management of the Community of Madrid, accusing it of treating housing as a speculative asset and refusing to regulate stressed areas, which hinders access for workers and pushes citizens to areas further from their workplaces.
While national progress has been made in economic and labor policy through social dialogue, leading to improvements in employment and wages, the Community of Madrid faces stagnation in job creation, widening social gaps, deteriorating public services, and increasing inequality and territorial imbalance, according to UGT and CCOO.
To curb this situation, unions consider it essential to strengthen social dialogue spaces and collective bargaining. They propose a new impetus for the Agreement for Employment and Collective Bargaining to continue raising wages, reducing working hours, and fairly distributing business profits.
“"Trade unionism is and will remain the fundamental instrument to guarantee a fair distribution of generated wealth and achieve equality. Today, more than ever, it is necessary to activate trade union and social mobilization. Because rights are not given away: they are conquered."
The Madrid City Council has announced significant traffic disruptions due to the demonstrations. Incidents are expected in Gran Vía and Plaza de España from 10:30 AM to 3:00 PM, with additional closures on Gran Vía from 7:00 AM to 6:00 PM for setup and dismantling of structures. Other affected areas include Paseo de las Delicias, Paseo del Prado, Plaza del Emperador Carlos V, Atocha Street, and Albufera Avenue, with specific timings for each.
The Municipal Transport Company (EMT) of Madrid has also reported modifications to the routes of numerous bus lines (001, 1, 002, 2, 3, 6, 8, 9, 10, 14, 17, 18, 19, 23, 24, 26, 27, 31, 32, 34, 35, 37, 41, 44, 45, 46, 47, 50, 52, 54, 55, 57, 58, 59, 60, 62, 65, 74, 75, 76, 85, 86, 102, 103, 111, 133, 136, 146, 147, 148, 203, 247, 310, C1, C2, C03, E1, and M3) in various districts of the city.
