The session, titled '100 years since the death of Antoni Gaudí. A museological vision from Casa Botines in León,' aims to reflect on the enduring relevance of the Catalan architect's work and the scope of the intervention carried out in the León building.
The event will examine how contemporary rehabilitation of historical heritage can be approached through the example of Casa Botines, combining the analysis of Gaudí's architecture with the museum's renovation of the property.
The museum's new permanent exhibition is conceived as a space for cultural interpretation where the building's trajectory and the figure of Antoni Gaudí converge. The tour begins with the uniqueness of Casa Botines to offer a rigorous reading of its evolution and significance, delving into Gaudí as a total creator, integrating form, function, and symbolism.
“"This dialogue between the building and its author "transcends" heritage to construct an experience of knowledge based on historical analysis, architectural interpretation, and sensory dimension."
With this proposal, the institution positions itself as a reference point for understanding Gaudí's legacy and for the contemporary activation of heritage.
The session will begin at 7:00 PM with an institutional opening featuring Pilar Pérez de la Cuadra, treasurer of the COAM, and José María Viejo del Pozo, general director of Fundos.
Following this, a presentation and debate panel will take place with Raúl Fernández Sobrino, director of the Casa Botines Gaudí Museum; Virginia González, architect and director of the renovation project; César García, titular professor of Art History at the University of León (ULE) and symbology specialist; and Carlos Varela, chief conservator of the Casa Botines Gaudí Museum.
The participants will address both the transformation of the building and the contemporary relevance of Gaudí's work from different professional and academic perspectives.
The meeting will conclude with a cocktail reception for attendees in the Auditorium of the Official College of Architects of Madrid.
