The inaugural National Speaking Competition, organized by Cambridge University Press & Assessment, has honored 6th-grade primary students for their oral English proficiency and creativity.

Cambridge University Press & Assessment has concluded the first edition of its National Speaking Competition, a nationwide educational contest designed for 6th-grade primary school students. The competition aims to enhance oral expression, critical thinking, and communication confidence in English, fostering a more dynamic and participatory learning experience.
Through the creation of video presentations, students have demonstrated their ability to structure arguments, communicate confidently, and use the language in contexts relevant to their lives, promoting a more natural and spontaneous use of English.
The jury recognized three outstanding entries for their communicative quality, originality, and demonstrated English level. The first prize was awarded to Adriana Beltrán from Colegio Zola Las Rozas (Madrid); the second to Diego Romano from Irlandesas Leioa school (Bizkaia); and the third to Nathaly Matos from Colegio Gamo Diana (Madrid). Special mentions were also given to students from various autonomous communities.
The awardees received digital reading devices, while their educational institutions were recognized with Cambridge educational materials. These initiatives aim to boost English learning and the development of communicative skills in classrooms.

"Learning a language also means learning to express ideas, gain confidence, and discover new ways of thinking and communicating. This competition shows the enormous potential of students when they find spaces to use English in a practical, creative way connected to their reality."

Aida García · General Director of Cambridge University Press & Assessment

"The real prize is seeing the students' motivation, the confidence they have to volunteer, and how they involve you in the entire process, from the ideas to the final preparation. Accompanying them on that journey is a reward in itself."

Roberto Fernández · Teacher at Colegio Zola Las Rozas

"Winning has been an honor, and participating in an English presentation helps with self-esteem and public speaking."

Following the success of this first edition, Cambridge University Press & Assessment is already planning future iterations of the National Speaking Competition to continue promoting English learning in educational centers across Spain. The awards were presented between May 29th and June 2nd at the winning schools.
