The mobilization, scheduled between 9:00 AM and 11:00 AM, aims to highlight the situation of "continuous abandonment" that, according to the Strike Committee, affects the collective. The workers, on indefinite strike since June 2023, point out several critical issues in their conflict with the administration.
Among the main grievances is the lack of recognition of their professional identity. Forest firefighters complain that their contracts are registered under job categories that do not correspond to their work, such as "van drivers" or "building maintainers." This situation prevents the recognition of specific occupational diseases for their category, 593-2 of forest firefighters.
“"They denounce that their contracts are registered under categories unrelated to their work, such as 'van drivers' or 'building maintainers,' which prevents the recognition of occupational diseases specific to category 593-2 of forest firefighters."
Furthermore, the group emphasizes job insecurity, highlighting the dangerous nature of their tasks. They mention incidents such as being trapped in Herradón de Pinares or a heat stroke suffered by a member during the Aranjuez fire, without formal recognition of the inherent danger of their position. Another point of contention is temporality, as they criticize the administration's intention to maintain contracts for only six months a year, making Madrid the only region with this level of temporality in the sector.
The Strike Committee has described the Community's latest economic proposal as "absolute contempt," which consisted of a supplement of 132.60 gross euros intended to cover eleven concepts of hardship and risk. Given this situation, forest firefighters demand job stability with 12-month contracts, remuneration commensurate with their duties, and urgent coverage of existing vacancies. The organizers have warned that mobilizations will continue until the regional Government offers a solution that guarantees both workers' rights and the environmental safety of the region.
