This measure, implemented annually, aims to provide suitable spaces for academic preparation. Two of the selected centers will operate continuously, 24 hours a day, while the remaining nine will keep their doors open until 1:00 AM.
The extraordinary opening will begin at 9:00 PM on May 11 and will continue until 1:00 AM on July 3, 2026. This initiative is primarily aimed at those preparing for exam sessions from May to July, making a total of 1,234 reading spots available across the regional public network.
The libraries offering 24-hour service are Rafael Alberti, located in Fuencarral-El Pardo, and Elena Fortún, in Retiro. Another nine centers will extend their hours from 9:00 AM to 1:00 AM. These include José Luis Sampedro in Chamberí, Pedro Salinas in Centro, José Acuña in Moncloa-Aravaca, Antonio Mingote in Latina, Javier Marías in Moratalaz, José Hierro in Usera, Miguel Hernández in Puente de Vallecas, Luis Rosales in Carabanchel, and María Moliner in Villaverde.
During this special opening period, only adult reading rooms will be available. Regular services such as book lending, newspaper archives, children's rooms, internet access, online databases, or document photocopying will not be operational. For security reasons, users over 14 years old must present their DNI or any other official document for entry during all opening hours.
“"Library rules of use must be respected. Smoking, eating, drinking, or using mobile phones in the rooms will not be permitted, and users must take care of the collections and facilities."
