The President of the Community of Madrid, Isabel Díaz Ayuso, will travel to the Vatican this Monday for a private audience with Pope Francis, to whom she will present the International Medal of the Community of Madrid.

The meeting will take place in the Apostolic Palace of the Vatican and will also serve to inform the Pontiff about the region's preparations for his upcoming visit, scheduled between June 6 and 9.
During the audience, Díaz Ayuso will also present the Pope with a special book featuring images of Christmas and Easter celebrations in various Madrid municipalities. As part of the gift, typical regional products will be included, such as pastries from Morata de Tajuña, olives from Campo Real, and sponge cakes from San Lorenzo del Escorial.
After the Pontiff's visit to Madrid was announced, the Madrid president emphasized that it would be an opportunity to showcase "the way of life, respect, and faith that is breathed in the region," and expressed her hope that the Pope would take "the best memory" of his stay.
The International Medal of the Community of Madrid, regulated by Law 2/2024, is awarded to representatives of other countries and high dignitaries of international organizations and the European Union during official visits. Recent recipients include the United States and the president-elect of Venezuela, Edmundo González Urrutia.
The Royal House of Correos will serve as the International Press Center during the apostolic visit. The Madrid executive is organizing a special transport, healthcare assistance, and cultural activities plan to welcome thousands of pilgrims.
