The region has consolidated its economic expansion with the incorporation of 8,086 self-employed individuals between January and June 2026, bringing the total to 447,263 self-employed workers. This increase of 1.8 percent compared to the start of the year, when 439,177 were registered, reflects a positive trend also observed nationally.
According to an analysis by the Union of Professionals and Self-Employed Workers (UPTA), based on the latest Social Security affiliation data, the number of self-employed individuals with employees has seen significant growth. In the Community of Madrid, these employer self-employed have increased by 2,110, rising from 55,494 in January to 57,604 in June, representing an increase of almost 4 percent.
Nationally, the evolution of the self-employed collective is also positive. Spain has gone from 3,420,468 self-employed workers in January to 3,490,048 in June, exceeding 3.49 million. The number of self-employed with employees at the national level has grown by 15,841, or 3.3 percent, reaching 489,396 in June. These employers support a total of 1,155,338 salaried jobs.
UPTA emphasizes the significance of this data, highlighting the weight of self-employment within the Spanish productive fabric. The organization stresses the need for measures that not only increase the number of activities but fundamentally foster their consolidation, growth, and sustainability.
