The reopening was announced by the delegate for Urban Planning, Environment, and Mobility of the Madrid City Council, Borja Carabante, via his 'X' social media profile. Carabante detailed that key works for connecting the new tunnel with the M-30 and the definitive burial of the A-5 highway have been completed.
The tunnel, which was closed to traffic between August 3rd and 24th, has undergone intensive connection work between the buried A-5 and the underground section of the M-30 beneath Avenida de Portugal. These works involved demolishing the concrete slab of the existing M-30 tunnel's exit ramp and installing fourteen large-scale beams.
These tasks are part of a larger project initiated in October 2024, aiming to bury nearly 4 kilometers of the A-5 highway between Avenida de Portugal and Avenida del Padre Piquer. The initiative seeks to reduce surface traffic and promote the creation of green spaces.
Landscaping and beautification of the surface area of the section reopening today is scheduled to begin in September, marking the completion of a significant phase of the project.
