The Community of Madrid continues its efforts against illegal constructions in the region, aiming to restore urban legality and protect designated land. Recently, two significant operations were conducted in Fuente el Saz de Jarama, a town experiencing a proliferation of irregular buildings. These actions resulted in the demolition of 12 properties that had been erected on areas of special environmental protection.
The first operation, carried out on June 24, focused on the demolition of three facilities located on a plot classified as Non-Developable Land for Fauna Protection under the municipality's General Urban Planning Plan (PGOU). These lands are also affected by the Vereda de San Agudín, a specifically protected livestock trail.
This operation was supported by the regional Forestry Agents Corps and a Guardia Civil unit, comprising personnel from the Nature Protection Service (SEPRONA) and Citizen Security patrols.
The second intervention took place on July 9 and involved the demolition of nine buildings situated on Non-Developable Land for Soil and Landscape Protection. This area, agricultural in nature, boasts high landscape quality and groundwater sensitivity, making it susceptible to contamination from any discharge.
These actions are part of the Inspection and Urban Planning Enforcement Plan 2025-2029 by the Ministry of Environment, Agriculture, and Interior, managed through the Directorate General of Urban Planning. In less than a year, the Community of Madrid has carried out a total of 17 demolitions of illegal constructions. Of these, five were executed subsidiarily by the regional administration, and the remaining 12 were voluntarily carried out by those responsible for the constructions.
The Ministry of Environment, Agriculture, and Interior has reiterated that illegal constructions on non-developable land pose a serious threat to territorial protection, contribute to the degradation of high-value environmental areas, and create legal uncertainty for citizens. Therefore, the regional government reaffirms its commitment to upholding urban legality, preserving the natural environment, and combating the irregular occupation of rural land.
