The town of Torrejón de Ardoz is commemorating Europe Day with a free photography exhibition titled “Perspectives of Europe Park,” which can be visited in Plaza España within the park.

The exhibition, named “Perspectives of Europe Park,” is the result of a collaborative effort by the Ortiz Echagüe Photographic Group (A.F.O.E), Negativo Digital A.F., and the Association of Photographers in Torrejón de Ardoz (AFOTAR). This display is part of the free activities organized to celebrate Europe Day.
Europe Day is celebrated annually on May 9, commemorating the historic Schuman Declaration. In 1950, the French minister proposed the joint administration of coal and steel from Germany and France, a crucial step for European integration and the origin of the current European Union.

The importance of this proposal made in 1950, five years after the surrender of the Nazi regime and in a Europe devastated by World War II, also lies in the fact that, by subjecting the two indispensable productions of the armaments industry to a single authority, the countries participating in this organization would find great difficulty in wanting to start a war among themselves.

The decision to establish Europe Day as an official commemoration was made at the Milan Summit in 1985, thus solidifying a day to celebrate peace and unity on the continent.
