The PSOE Federal Executive Commission has approved the extension of the mandate for the Caretaker Committee of the Socialist Group of Alcalá de Henares, chaired by Cristina González Álvarez, extending the provisional period beyond the initial three months.

The decision, communicated this week to local members, allows the provisional body to continue leading the socialist group in Alcalá de Henares. This measure means the PSOE in Alcalá de Henares remains without leadership elected by its members for over a hundred days since the resignation of Javier Rodríguez Palacios as general secretary.
The extension, which follows a request from the Caretaker Committee itself and has been accepted by the federal leadership, reopens internal debate regarding the timeline and future leadership of the main opposition party in the city. The current Caretaker Committee, composed of Cristina González Álvarez (president), Ángel Viveros Gutiérrez, Laura Abella Martín, Santiago Alonso Alonso, and Diana Díaz del Pozo, temporarily took over leadership after the dissolution of the local executive on March 3rd.
In its management report, the Caretaker Committee highlights coordination with the Socialist Municipal Group, participation in organic and sectoral events, engagement with citizen groups, and monitoring of local political developments. It also details actions related to the group's internal life and management of incidents at the party headquarters.
However, the federal leadership's decision has not been met with unanimous approval. Critical sectors within the membership believe the extension of the Caretaker Committee prolongs an exceptional situation and question whether a significant portion of the reported activities truly stems from the Municipal Group's institutional work rather than the Caretaker Committee's specific organic duties. Criticisms particularly focus on the absence of a concrete timeline for electing new leadership, arguing that the priority should be to convene the Assembly to restore decision-making power to the members.
Critical internal sources suggest that a further extension after the summer could lead to the direct appointment of Javier Rodríguez Palacios as the socialist candidate for Mayor, a solution potentially overseen by regional and federal party structures that would delay the Assembly's convening. Currently, neither the federal leadership nor the Caretaker Committee has publicly announced decisions on future candidacies or specific timelines for concluding the internal process, leaving the PSOE of Alcalá de Henares under provisional leadership.
