Union representatives for the Municipal Police of Coslada have issued a serious warning: they cannot ensure security coverage for the upcoming patron saint festivities, set to take place from June 12-15 at the fairgrounds. The primary reason is the latent labor dispute with the officers and the lack of response to their demands regarding working conditions and adherence to prior agreements.
Organizations such as CPPM, CSIT Unión Profesional/PLS, and UGT have jointly stated that the proper execution of the security deployment depends on the "voluntariness, effort, and renunciation of work-life balance" by the police officers. According to the unions, this reliance on the individual disposition of officers highlights the absence of structural solutions from the local administration.
The union organizations report a climate of "growing unease" within the workforce, accusing administrations of a "lack of commitment" to respect labor conditions and fulfill signed agreements. They explain that their demands have been ignored for years, leading to "evident demotivation" and a deterioration of public services.
The safety of residents and visitors cannot depend solely on the effort and professionalism of increasingly overburdened officers.
Therefore, they demand that the City Council of Coslada take "immediate measures" to comply with the agreed-upon accords and resolve the conflict. Union representatives warn that this issue extends beyond the festivities, potentially impacting future special security deployments and the daily operations of the Municipal Police.
Municipal sources assure that they are continuing to "work" towards a last-minute agreement, although they note that objections from the municipal audit office have stalled negotiations. As a contingency measure, the City Council has the "commitment" of the Government Delegation in Madrid to reinforce necessary services with agents from the National Police Corps if required.
Resolving this labor dispute before June 12 is crucial, given that the patron saint festivities of Coslada are an event of significant importance for the municipality. Both unions and the local administration recognize the importance of reaching an agreement that ensures security without solely relying on the officers' willingness.
