The city of Alcalá de Henares is set to host the tenth edition of the Contemporary Dance Festival in Unconventional Spaces ‘Cervandantes’, offering a diverse program of free shows and activities from May 8 to 10.

The festival, which coincides with the commemoration of International Dance Day, will transform the historic center of the town into a stage for contemporary dance. Performances will take place both outdoors and in indoor venues, alongside workshops for all ages.
Among the prominent professionals participating in this edition are renowned figures in the discipline, including an artist honored with the Gold Medal for Merit in Fine Arts in 2024 and the National Dance Award 2000, as well as a dancer who received the Max Award for Best Male Dance Performance in 2024. The piece “BAUNSBAK” by a company with six nominations for the Max Awards 2026 will also be presented.

"Once again, we will fill our historic center with contemporary dance through performances both outdoors and in enclosed spaces, as well as workshops for all ages, all free of charge."

The Festival's extensive program also includes a dance-themed scavenger hunt, contemporary dance workshops, and a showcase at the Teatro Salón Cervantes of a mediation project developed with the citizens of Alcalá de Henares.
Since its first edition in 2016, Cervandantes has established itself as a benchmark for dance in the city. In 2022, the festival joined the Red A Cielo Abierto, a circuit comprising prestigious contemporary dance festivals across Spain, aiming to strengthen the work of dancers, choreographers, and companies, and connect their art with the community.

"We invite residents and visitors to experience a weekend with contemporary dance as the protagonist, giving visibility to a performing art capable of conveying the most diverse emotions through movement and bodily expression."

The event is organized once again by the Alcalá de Henares City Council and a local cultural association, led by two dancers.
