Alcalá de Henares Brims with Culture: Theater, Music, Cinema, and Book Fair

The historic city offers a diverse cultural agenda this weekend, featuring the Krunch! Festival and various exhibitions.

Alcalá de Henares is set for a vibrant cultural weekend, with a program spanning theatrical performances, concerts, family cinema, and the XLIII Book Fair, alongside the Krunch! Festival dedicated to comics and illustration.

The Teatro Salón Cervantes will be a central hub of activity, presenting on Friday, April 17, the play Mihura, el último comediógrafo, a tribute to Miguel Mihura and theater, starring David Castillo and Rulo Pardo. On Saturday, April 18, Luis Luque will direct Filosofía mundana, based on the articles of Javier Gomá, with a cast including Jorge Calvo and Marta Larralde. On Sunday, the “Alcalá a escena” series will feature a concert by Puros.Wave, promoting local talent.
The Corral de Comedias will host El cerco de Leningrado, a play by José Sanchis Sinisterra directed by Eva Redondo, with performances on Friday, April 17, and Saturday, April 18, at 7:30 PM. This piece explores the story of two communists taking refuge in a decaying theater.
Exhibitions will also play a significant role. The Antiguo Hospital de Santa María La Rica will showcase Diálogos y emociones by Karfer Eguía until May 17, and El camino del arte. Fran Atienza until May 3. Additionally, the Antonio López room will feature La memoria del bronce, a tribute to sculptor Miguel Ángel Sánchez García on the 80th anniversary of his birth. The Capilla del Oidor will host La Sociedad de Condueños. 175 años de historia, a documentary exhibition celebrating the founding of the Sociedad de Condueños de los Edificios que fueron Universidad in 1851, from April 15 to May 10.
The XLIII Alcalá de Henares Book Fair will take place from April 17 to May 3 in the Plaza de Cervantes, with 27 participating entities and 37 stands. The Professional Music Conservatory of Alcalá de Henares will bring music to the streets of the historic center on Friday, April 17, with performances in various locations. The Gilitos-LabCrea Cultural Center will offer free family cinema with the film Looney Tunes. El día que la tierra explotó.
Finally, the Krunch! Festival, dedicated to comics, illustration, and rock&roll, will celebrate its fifth edition from April 16 to 19, combining recreational activities with academic training. The “Primavera en la Quinta” series at the Quinta de Cervantes will continue with a folk concert from Soria and a performance by the Duelos y Quebrantos Theater Company with the musical Mago de Oz.
