The Alcalá de Henares City Council unanimously approved in its ordinary July plenary session an institutional declaration in support and solidarity with the Venezuelan people following the earthquakes of June 24. The declaration acknowledges the mobilization of emergency services, health teams, rescue personnel, humanitarian organizations, and volunteers to assist the affected population.
The text highlights the significant Venezuelan community residing in Spain and in many Spanish municipalities, noting that the tragedy is also felt in these cities. It recalls that on June 29, minutes of silence were observed in memory of the victims, at the request of the Spanish Federation of Municipalities and Provinces (FEMP).
The FEMP has invited local entities to activate emergency aid, channel contributions through humanitarian organizations, and promote awareness campaigns or support events. Following these recommendations, the Alcalá City Council has approved a contribution of 6,000 euros.
The declaration concludes that this contribution demonstrates the city's commitment to the people of Venezuela and to the nearly 4,000 Venezuelans residing in Alcalá de Henares, to whom support and solidarity are expressed during these difficult times.
