Construction work for the expansion of the parking lot located between Camino del Juncal and Jiménez de Quesada street in Alcalá de Henares started this week. This project, with an investment of nearly one million euros, will create 100 new parking spaces.
The project will be financed by 95% by the Community of Madrid through the Regional Investment Plan (PIR). The initiative responds to a long-standing demand from local residents to increase parking capacity and improve mobility.
The deputy mayor and urban planning councilor, Cristina Alcañiz, highlighted that these new spaces will be added to the 350 recently opened in the Arboreto de Reyes Católicos area, thus reinforcing parking capacity in an area with high demand.
The works include leveling the ground to integrate the new space with the current parking lot. Additionally, traffic will be reorganized to enhance road safety and traffic flow, ensuring these actions are compatible with the archaeological site in the vicinity.
The new area will be structured in a grid pattern following the layout of the Roman city of Complutum, with pedestrian paths crossing the plot from east to west, creating an accessible route with landscaped areas and urban furniture. One of the viewpoints will overlook the documented remains of a Roman temple.
In the northeastern wooded area, existing trees will be maintained and the area will be cleared. The approximate surface area executed within the project's scope is 12,985 square meters.
