More than a hundred riders and amazons are gathering this weekend in Alcalá de Henares for the Grand Prize of the Illustrious City Council of Alcalá de Henares, a prominent national equestrian competition held at the Military Equestrian Center.

The city of Alcalá de Henares is hosting a new edition of the national equestrian competition, taking place at the Military Equestrian Center facilities. Over three days, both residents and equestrian enthusiasts can enjoy high-level show jumping.
One of the unique features of this competition is its emblematic grass track, one of the few remaining in Spain due to the complexity of its maintenance and preservation.
On Saturday afternoon, a special event was held for local riders and amazons. This initiative, promoted by the Sports Department of the Alcalá de Henares City Council, aims to provide local athletes, especially young people, with the opportunity to participate in a high-level competition, thereby promoting equestrian sports.

"This event is promoted by the Sports Department of the Alcalá de Henares City Council and is considered of great interest, as it consolidates the promotion of equestrian show jumping."

On Sunday at noon, the Grand Prize of the Illustrious City Council of Alcalá de Henares will take place, the highlight of the competition. It is distinguished by its high technical difficulty and the height of the obstacles, reaching 1.40 and 1.45 meters. In this Three-Star event, recognized by the Royal Spanish Equestrian Federation as a High Competition, pairs that complete a clear first round will advance to a final jump-off to determine the winner.
As a novelty this year, new scoring systems have been incorporated into the intermediate events. This format, unusual in competitions in the Community of Madrid, has been well received by participants and promises to add excitement and appeal for both riders and the public. The list of registered participants already exceeds one hundred, with riders from various regions of Spain, and the number continues to grow. Participation has been limited to 160 horses to ensure the track remains in good condition throughout the three days.
This edition features the internationally renowned course designer Román Waldner, who is responsible for creating the routes. Additionally, as in previous years, the competition is supported by a specialized application for managing and disseminating equestrian competitions worldwide, allowing live tracking of the event and promoting Alcalá de Henares as a significant location for equestrian sports.
