The library is advancing its commitment to accessibility with the acquisition of this equipment, which complements the public reading services offered to all citizens, with special attention to the needs of people with different abilities.
The desktop magnifier, intended for people with low vision, features a sixteen-inch screen and intelligent visual aid functions. It offers optical character recognition (OCR) and converts text to speech, allowing for clear magnification of printed texts, reading online books from the eBiblio digital lending platform, writing documents, and browsing the Internet.
The second device is a book reader that converts printed text into speech immediately and simply. By placing the text under the camera, it is delivered through headphones in a natural voice, facilitating reading access for blind individuals.
The acquisition of these two devices was made possible by a grant from the Consejería de Cultura, Turismo y Deporte (Regional Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Sport), aimed at equipping and implementing new services and technologies in public libraries.
The Councilor for Culture, Emi Escudero, highlighted the importance of these advancements in removing barriers and promoting the autonomy of visually impaired individuals in accessing information and culture. She also expressed gratitude for the advice from Coslada Accesible in building increasingly inclusive libraries.
