The campaign reminds the public of the importance of maintaining preventive measures even after summer, as mild temperatures and autumn rains can favor the continued activity of the tiger mosquito and generate new breeding sites in containers and other places where water accumulates.
To facilitate understanding of the recommendations, the Department will disseminate explanatory videos with examples of everyday situations and simple prevention actions. This information will be complemented by the distribution of brochures in homes, prioritizing areas with patios, gardens, and terraces, which are more prone to the appearance of breeding grounds.
The delegate councilor for Health, Consumption, and Animal Welfare, Rubén Aguilar, highlighted the importance of clear and practical information reaching homes, stating that "sometimes it is enough to check a plant pot saucer, turn over a bucket, or clean a drain to eliminate a potential breeding site." He added that "with this campaign, we want to facilitate these care measures and remind people that prevention remains necessary in autumn as well."
The campaign encourages checking the domestic environment every few days, especially after rain, to prevent small water accumulations. Key recommendations include emptying plant pot saucers, turning over buckets and containers left outdoors, regularly changing and cleaning water bowls, keeping gutters and drains clean, and avoiding waterlogging caused by irrigation.
Rubén Aguilar emphasized that "neighborhood collaboration is fundamental because many of these sites are found within homes and their outdoor spaces. Caring for our terrace or patio also helps care for the neighborhood."
