The initiative by the local government of Torrejón de Ardoz marks a significant shift in the municipality's parking policy. For the first time, any resident will be able to purchase one of these spaces, removing previous restrictions that limited access to former tenants or prior assignees. This measure responds to one of the main concerns of citizens: the persistent lack of parking in various areas of the city.
The new spaces will be distributed in high-demand areas considered priorities, such as Torrepista, Juncal, Fresnos, Parque Cataluña, and Barrio Verde. In most of these areas, over a hundred spaces will be offered, while in the vicinity of Parque Cataluña, 25 will be available for sale, a smaller number that, according to the City Council, addresses the strong need for parking in that location.
The announcement is part of the municipal plan to create 16,000 parking spaces, a strategy that the City Council has been developing for years with the intention of alleviating parking problems and responding to the growing demand in different neighborhoods.
The prices for these spaces have been set with accessibility criteria and adjusted to market value. Motorcycle spaces will start at 2,600 euros, while those for cars will begin at just over 7,500 euros. The local government is confident that these conditions will make it easier for residents to acquire their own parking space in areas where surface parking is increasingly difficult.
This offer of underground spaces complements the recent creation of new free surface parking lots in key points of the municipality, such as La Frontera, the area around Parque Cataluña, Malala Yousafzai, Soto Norte, and the Castillo neighborhood, where a parking facility with 231 spaces has been enabled. This dual strategy aims to enhance parking availability and offer more options to residents.
