The Royal National Academy of Medicine of Spain (RANME) and the Getafe University Hospital (HUG) have signed a collaboration agreement regarding museum collections, focusing on the Dr. Andrés Esteban Museum of Sanitary Material.
The main objective of the agreement is to facilitate the mutual availability of museum-worthy collections, works, pieces, and documents for the dissemination of medical science heritage. RANME, which maintains the Infanta Margarita Museum of Medicine (MMIM), is thus seeking agreements with other collections to broaden knowledge dissemination.
Both entities will collaborate on thematic exhibitions and outreach activities related to documentary and instrumental heritage in the field of medicine. Present at the signing were Prof. Eduardo Díaz-Rubio, president of RANME, and Dr. Zita Quintela, CEO of HUG, along with members of the joint monitoring commission.
“
"The origin of the pieces in the HUG Museum is the result of years of searching in antique shops and fairs, as well as popular markets, by two hospital doctors, to which unsolicited donations have been added subsequently."
“
"One of the main uses will be the training of students of medicine, nursing, and other health professions such as odontoestomatology or sanitary engineering; for already trained doctors, the exhibitions will also provide information on specific areas or pieces they were unaware of."
