The mayor of Getafe has announced that the local government will promote the construction of a new educational center in the Los Molinos neighborhood. This initiative aims to address the high demand for places in early childhood education, a priority objective for the municipal executive.
The proximity of the future school to the former ‘Corrugados’ foundry, whose cessation of activity has been a key factor, had been a point of debate. However, the proximity is now considered an element that will not impede the project's progress.
It is time to move forward with these advancements.
The mayor plans to meet in early July with the Minister of Education of the Community of Madrid to request her collaboration on the works. Furthermore, the desire will be expressed for the direct management of the center to be public, avoiding models of awarding contracts to external companies, as previously occurred with the ‘Arcoíris’ school.
During the meeting, the need for the neighborhood to have a comprehensive educational center covering ages 0 to 16 will be raised, complementing the offer of the ‘Miguel de Cervantes’ public school. The creation of a second special education school will also be requested, as the ‘Ramón y Cajal’ is currently saturated.
Finally, explanations will be sought regarding the installation of prefabricated classrooms ('barracones') at CEIPSO Miguel de Cervantes and the cancellation of a class at that center, the transfer of which to the ‘Gloria Fuertes’ school has caused inconvenience for families.
