Organic waste collection in the brown bins of Alcorcón saw a 121.44% increase during 2025, reaching a total of 1,010.1 tons according to data from Esmasa.

The rise in biodegradable waste management reflects the consolidation of the fifth container system in the municipality. This initiative, which handles food scraps, coffee grounds, and used napkins, has successfully reduced the volume of waste sent to landfills by converting materials into compost or biogas.
The municipal company noted that the percentage of improper waste deposited in the brown bins stood at 6.5%, a figure that highlights the public's commitment to correctly separating materials at home.
Regarding other fractions, paper and cardboard recycling in the blue bins grew by 3.48%, totaling 5,004.4 tons. With an average of 28.82 kilos per inhabitant, Alcorcón remains above the national average of 22.42 kilos per year.
Meanwhile, plastic packaging collection in the yellow bins increased by 0.83%, reaching 4,107.3 tons, while glass collection totaled 2,341.1 tons. Additionally, the management of bulky waste saw a 4.50% growth compared to the previous year.
