The Community of Madrid has activated Level 2 alert for a heatwave, with high risk, due to the maximum temperature forecasts for today and the next two days.

The Community of Madrid Security and Emergency Agency 112, through the General Subdirectorate of Civil Protection, has reported the continuation of the heatwave alert. This measure is based on the communication from the Public Health Alerts Service of the Ministry of Health of the Community of Madrid.
According to the Action Plan for High Temperature Episodes, the following risk levels have been established by meteo-health zone as of today, July 7, 2026: Sierra de Madrid Zone: Level 2 (High risk); Metropolitan and Henares Zone: Level 2 (High risk); South, Vegas, and West Zone: Level 2 (High risk). The level is calculated by an algorithm comparing forecast maximum temperatures with the reference thresholds for the three geographical zones of the Community of Madrid.
Vulnerable population groups particularly include infants, children, individuals over 65, people with chronic illnesses (cerebrovascular, cardiovascular, respiratory, neurological, diabetes), and outdoor workers or athletes.
Heatwaves can cause conditions ranging from dermatitis and edema to heatstroke, which can be fatal or leave significant after-effects. Symptoms of heatstroke include elevated body temperature (up to 40º C), hot and dry skin, headache, nausea, intense thirst, confusion, and loss of consciousness.
It is recommended to maintain constant hydration, drink at least 2 liters of fluids daily, avoid alcoholic beverages, and stay indoors during the hottest hours. It is advisable to spend time in cool areas, shower frequently, eat light meals, and protect oneself from the sun with sunscreen, hats, and sunglasses.
Special attention should be paid to elderly relatives and neighbors, as well as infants and young children, keeping them cool and hydrated. It is important to follow information from media and health services. In case of any emergency, call 112.
