Alcorcon registered its lowest unemployment figure since official data began in 2005 in May, with 6,819 people out of work, a decrease of 100 from the previous month and 195 fewer than last year.
The municipality of Alcorcon concluded the month of May with a total of 6,819 unemployed individuals, marking a new historic low for this month since the start of the official data series in 2005. This figure represents a decrease of 100 jobless people compared to the previous month and a reduction of 195 individuals when compared to May of last year.
The City Council attributes this positive trend to the economic activity generated by the start of the summer season and the approaching summer campaign. The year-on-year decrease in unemployment has been particularly concentrated among women, who account for 87% of the recorded reduction with 170 fewer unemployed. By age group, individuals between 24 and 44 years old have seen the most significant drop, with 136 fewer unemployed.
Social Security affiliation data from April, pending May figures, shows that Alcorcon had 51,832 affiliates, nearly 600 more than the previous year. In terms of hiring, 2,537 contracts were formalized in the last analyzed month, a 30% increase compared to the same period in 2023, with nearly 60% of these being permanent contracts.

"Alcorcon is achieving something that has not yet been accomplished in the region or the country as a whole. We are not only taking advantage of the general positive trend, but we are also managing, month after month, to break all employment records in the city. This is a collective achievement that we are very proud of, and we will continue to promote it with municipal employment policies that support local commerce and small businesses in the municipality."
