The city of Alcorcón is preparing to welcome the weekend with a diverse range of leisure and cultural offerings. The Culture Department has organized multiple events, including performances at the Buero Vallejo Theater and workshops at the José Hierro Library.
The 6th 'Orgullo Friki' (Geek Pride) Edition returns to X-Madrid, solidifying its status as a meeting point for fans of geek culture. Activities commenced last Thursday and will continue throughout the weekend. Friday, May 22nd, features a parade with a geek-themed band and laser sword demonstrations. Saturday will be dedicated to K-Pop, with a soloists' contest and a 'random dance' event. Sunday, the final day, will include karaoke, an improvisation show, and the continuation of the geek fair.
Alcorcón's cultural agenda kicks off on Friday, May 22nd, with the theatrical play El barbero de Picasso (Picasso's Barber) at the Buero Vallejo Theater at 8:30 PM. This comedy, starring Pepe Viyuela and Antonio Molero, explores the friendship between Pablo Picasso and his barber in 1950s Paris, touching upon themes of nostalgia and political commitment.
In addition to the theatrical offerings, Friday's family program includes the reading animation workshop The Spell and Charm Book of the Beautiful Witch at the José Hierro Library at 6:00 PM, aimed at children aged four and up. Entry is free on a first-come, first-served basis. On the same day, at 7:00 PM, the Centro del Títere (Puppet Center) will inaugurate the exhibition La Máquina Real: Actors without a Soul. A Thousand Years of Puppet Theater in Spain, a historical journey through the country's puppet theater tradition, featuring contributions from Jesús Caballero and playwright José Sanchis Sinisterra.
The weekend also brings dance and music events. On Saturday, May 23rd, at 7:00 PM, the Margarita Burón Cultural Center will host the book presentation Language and Anti-racism by Professor José L. Magro, with participation from journalist Lucía Mbomío and communicator Youssef Ouled.
The establishment Caña by Cañitas, located at Avenida Las Retamas, 67, offers a notable gastronomic experience. Known for its 'rascally' starters, it boasts the 'world's best croquette' award from 2021, served with bacon popcorn and Joselito pork jowl. Their 'bravas cañitas' and a diverse menu of chicken dishes and burgers make it a highly recommended culinary option in Alcorcón.
