The Spanish Agency of Medicines and Medical Devices (AEMPS) has ordered the cessation of marketing and the withdrawal from the market of two batches of teeth whitening products due to the detection of ingredients in concentrations higher than permitted.

The affected batches are T125218 of 7D White Teeth Whitening Strips and T125186 of Teeth Whitening Pen, both intended for home use and marketed by the company Success Courier S.L.
These measures are due to the detection of 6-methylcoumarin at concentrations of 0.05% (permitted limit 0.003%) and hydrogen peroxide above 0.9% (permitted limit 0.1%) in the 7D White Teeth Whitening Strips product. In the case of the Teeth Whitening Pen, 8.1% hydrogen peroxide was detected, exceeding the 0.1% limit.
These concentrations do not comply with the requirements established in Regulation (EC) No 1223/2009 on cosmetic products. The AEMPS became aware of the problem through alerts notified via the European system Safety Gate and has communicated the measures to the regional health authorities.
Users who have units of the affected batches are advised not to use them and to return them to the point of purchase or the responsible company. Retailers must remove these products from sale and contact the company.
The responsible company is Success Courier S.L., located at C/ Río Tormes nº1, planta 1 derecha, oficina 3, in Fuenlabrada (Madrid).
