Titled 'How to Analyze a Film? Keys to Cinematic Language,' the workshop aims to teach the public how to identify the creative decisions behind films that 'captivate' the viewer. Basic filmmaking construction tools will be explored simply, supported by images and videos.
Attendees will learn about the construction of the shot, the minimal unit of cinema, including the role of the body and landscape in framing, and the different types that exist. Movement, the evolution of sequences, and the use of the long take will also be addressed.
The workshop will also delve into editing, its main types, and the so-called 'invisible editing' used in Hollywood. Finally, new cinematic languages and contemporary ways of telling stories through images will be examined.
Facilitated by Pablo Caldera Ortiz, a Philosophy graduate and doctor in Artistic, Literary, and Cultural Studies, the workshop requires no prior knowledge, only the desire to watch films differently.
The activity is free, public, and primarily intended for senior and adult audiences. It will last 120 minutes and take place on Saturday, October 24th from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at the Sierra Norte Regional Humanities Center, located at Av. de la Cabrera, 96, 28751 La Cabrera, Madrid. Registration is required starting October 5th, with limited places.
