After twelve editions held in Collado Mediano, the Memorial moves this year to Torrelodones, thanks to the collaboration between the Torrelodones Rugby Club, the Sports Department of the Torrelodones City Council, and the Memorial organizers.
The event, running from 09:00 to 20:00, will feature approximately 500 players. Confirmed teams include Torrelodones Rugby Club, C.D. Arquitectura, Paracuellos Rugby Unión, Olímpico de Pozuelo, and Madrid Lions RFC.
The Memorial aims to remain more than just a series of matches, fostering values such as sportsmanship, respect for opponents, friendship, and intergenerational coexistence, which are fundamental to rugby.
Companionship, respect for the opponent, friendship, coexistence between generations, and the 'third half' are part of a way of understanding the sport of rugby that the Memorial has sought to preserve since its inception.
The Memorial honors José Luis Tobar González, born in Pasajes de San Juan (Guipúzcoa) in 1929. Evacuated to the United Kingdom in 1937, his life led him to Wales, where he studied and became deeply involved with rugby at West Monmouth School.
The historical photograph on this edition's poster, from the 1948-1949 season, depicts José Luis Tobar during his formative years in Welsh rugby. Upon returning to Spain, he maintained his connection to the sport, associated with C.D. Arquitectura, playing for the Spanish national team, and contributing to the structure of the Spanish Rugby Federation.
His legacy lives on through this Memorial, which in its previous twelve editions has brought together diverse generations of players, from children taking their first steps with an oval ball to senior players, veterans, internationals, and many historical figures of Spanish rugby.
