The Community of Madrid is set to invest over 14 million euros in the new Mental Health Center in Majadahonda, which will serve approximately 424,000 inhabitants from the region's northwest. This investment will significantly expand the current care capacity compared to the existing center located at the Cerro del Aire Health Center.
The Minister of Health, Fátima Matute, presented this future complex, which will be affiliated with the Puerta de Hierro University Hospital of Majadahonda and will cater to both adult and child/adolescent populations. The construction works, with an estimated duration of 19 months, will be put out to tender in the coming months on land ceded by the Municipal Council, located on Manuel de Falla street.
The complex will feature a built area of 6,710 square meters spread across four floors. It will be organized into three distinct care areas: Adolescent Day Hospital, Child and Adolescent Area, and Adult Area. It will include 58 consultation rooms, eight group therapy rooms, three low-stimulation rooms, and administrative and educational areas, along with measures for optimal performance and the use of renewable energy.
It will house two multidisciplinary teams. The adult area team will consist of at least 14 psychiatrists, five psychologists, four nursing professionals, and one social worker. The child and adolescent area will have five psychiatrists, three psychologists, two nurses, one social worker, and one occupational therapist. The Adolescent Day Hospital will be staffed by two clinical psychology specialists, two nursing professionals, one child and adolescent psychiatrist, one occupational therapist, one nursing auxiliary technician (TCAE), and one orderly.
This staff, numbering close to 50 individuals, will collaborate with other public resources within the Community of Madrid, including addiction services, psychosocial rehabilitation services, educational centers, and child protection and justice services. The professionals will combine individual and group care, have dedicated spaces for training and clinical observation, and will be fully integrated with the hospital resources of the Puerta de Hierro University Hospital Majadahonda.
