The exhibition, part of the commemorative activities for the 175th anniversary of Canal de Isabel II, has been inaugurated at the Espacio Torrelodones Shopping Center. Visitors can enjoy this exhibition in the central square of the shopping center, every day of the week, during regular opening hours.
The exhibition features 16 scenes created with plasticine figures, accompanied by informative texts that detail the evolution of water management in the region. These visual and educational representations illustrate the development and modernization that the public company has driven in the Community of Madrid, from the late 19th century to the present day, establishing itself as a global benchmark in integrated water cycle management.
“"Madam, we have been fortunate to see a river standing up."
The exhibition's title, 'A Vertical River,' evokes a famous phrase uttered by the Minister of Governance, José Posada Herrera, before Queen Isabel II on June 24, 1858. On that occasion, upon observing the jet of water from the fountain on San Bernardo Street in Madrid, the minister poetically described the arrival of water from the Pontón de la Oliva dam to the capital.
This cultural initiative is part of a tour that will visit twelve municipalities in the Community of Madrid. After its stops in Las Rozas, Villaviciosa de Odón, and Majadahonda, the exhibition is scheduled to visit towns such as Humanes, Manzanares el Real, and Boadilla del Monte in the coming weeks.
On June 18, it will be 175 years since the publication of the Royal Decree that ordered the construction of a reservoir and a pipeline of more than 70 kilometers to supply water to the capital from the Lozoya River, marking the beginning of Canal de Isabel II. Currently, the company has over 3,200 professionals and is recognized for its excellence in integrated water cycle management.
