At 19 years old, Laia López de la Morena has experienced an unforgettable U20 World Cup, culminating in Spain's victory and her stellar performance. Laia, who only conceded one goal in the group stage, was crucial in the final against South Korea by saving two decisive penalties. Her performance has earned her recognition as the championship's best goalkeeper, receiving the 'Golden Glove' trophy.
López de la Morena's technical skill, tireless work ethic, humility, and collective commitment position her as one of the country's most promising footballers. Her successes began early, with U17 and U19 European titles. In 2025, she already received her City Council's Sports Merit Award as the best rising talent.
Her progression has been meteoric. In June of this year, Real Madrid formalized her incorporation into the first team, with a contract until 2030, demonstrating the club's confidence. She stands out for her agility, ball control, and leadership ability.
This U20 World Cup triumph in 2026 in Poland adds to a golden decade for Spanish women's sports, which includes Olympic and Paralympic medals from other athletes. Laia López de la Morena, who previously played in the U17 World Cup final in 2024 against the same opponent, has seen her childhood dream come true.
