The town in northern Madrid is reviving the traditional celebration of its agricultural patron saint, a festivity that combines faith with the deep historical roots of the municipality. This year's event, organized by the Association of Rustics, Farmers and Ranchers, is particularly notable due to the recent signing of its first agreement with the City Council, an accord aimed at strengthening the preservation of local customs.
The festive program will begin at 11:45 AM with a parade enlivened by the Municipal Music Band, which will depart from the Town Hall and proceed through the streets to the San Sebastián Mártir parish church. At 12:00 PM, a mass in honor of San Isidro will be held in the same church, a central moment of reflection for the community. Following the religious ceremony, a procession will make its way through the town's streets, again accompanied by the Municipal Band, extending the celebration beyond the ecclesiastical sphere.
“"The objective of this agreement is not limited to guaranteeing the organization of the San Isidro events. One of the aims of this new collaboration is to promote and recover local traditions that have been lost over the years."
The Association of Rustics, Farmers and Ranchers of San Sebastián de los Reyes has been the driving force behind these events, working for years to maintain the municipality's connection with its agricultural and livestock past. This effort is particularly significant in an area that has undergone profound urban and industrial transformation in recent decades.
The agreement signed between the association and the City Council establishes a formal framework for collaboration that extends beyond the San Isidro festivities. Its purpose is to promote the recovery of other local traditions that have gradually disappeared, seeking to rescue customs and celebrations that were once part of the municipality's daily life. This agreement represents an institutional commitment to the collective memory of San Sebastián de los Reyes.
The festivity of San Isidro Labrador, a figure of great importance in Spanish Catholic tradition and especially in the Community of Madrid, is widely celebrated throughout the region. In San Sebastián de los Reyes, this commemoration holds particular significance due to its historical continuity and the local effort to keep it alive.
