The Pablo Ruiz Picasso Cultural Center in Colmenar Viejo becomes the cultural hub of the town during May with a dual exhibition proposal. Visitors can enjoy an international exhibition of artist books and a selection of oil paintings, both with free admission.
The Department of Culture has organized these exhibitions, located at Calle de la Iglesia, 12, which opened their doors to the public on May 6. Both offer diverse perspectives on contemporary artistic creation, combining book art with landscape and still life painting.
“"The book, understood not as a text medium but as an artistic object in itself, is the absolute protagonist of this exhibition."
The ‘X Exhibition of Artist Books’, held in the Picasso Room, commemorates the centenary of the death of two key figures in art and architecture: the Catalan architect Antonio Gaudí and the French painter Claude Monet, both of whom passed away in 1926. The exhibition, organized by the ‘El Sótano’ Plastic Artists Association, brings together nearly 40 works that transform the book into a unique artistic piece. This exhibition will be available until June 2.
Concurrently, in the same center's lobby, ‘Lugares’ (Places) is on display, a collection of approximately 15 oil canvases by painter Carlos Coira. This exhibition, which can be visited until May 31, explores various pictorial styles, from impressionism to cubism, and focuses on recognizable spaces such as seascapes, landscapes of the Dehesa de Colmenar Viejo, and corners of Galicia.
Both exhibitions offer free admission and can be visited Monday to Friday from 10:00 to 14:00 h and from 17:00 to 21:00 h, and on Saturdays from 10:00 to 14:00 h.
