The management and unions of HUNOSA have signed the 2025/2028 Strategic Plan at the SEPI Foundation's Los Peñascales Campus in Torrelodones (Madrid), an agreement that will mobilize over 110 million euros.

The document, agreed upon after nearly fifty meetings and ratified by the boards of directors of HUNOSA and SEPI, establishes the company's strategy for the coming years, focusing on decarbonization, environmental management, and the economic and social revitalization of mining regions.
This plan includes the mobilization of over 110 million euros and the creation of 80 new jobs within the parent company, plus as many in its subsidiary Sadim. A specific training program for employees will also be implemented to cover the needs of new lines of action. The 2025-2028 Strategic Plan marks the end of 30 years of restructuring, as for the first time in decades, net job growth is projected.
HUNOSA will strengthen its role as a decarbonization agent by leveraging its endogenous resources and promoting renewable energies. Notably, the transformation of the La Pereda Thermal Power Plant into a biomass plant, with an investment exceeding 56 million euros, will utilize approximately 3,800 hectares of its own forests for biomass production.
At the Pozo San Nicolás (Mieres), the company will develop a renewable energy park featuring reversible pumped storage, hydraulic utilization of underground streams, and a photovoltaic project. Heat networks will be extended, and new photovoltaic and hydraulic projects will be promoted, alongside advancements in R&D&I with projects such as a pilot CO2 capture plant and the development of green hydrogen.
Through Sadim, HUNOSA will act as an environmental manager, rehabilitating areas affected by mining activities and exploring critical raw materials, as well as managing and restoring spoil heaps. The creation of a National Rescue Center at the Santiago mine (Aller) and the operation of Batán Recovery (Mieres) as a processing plant for strategic materials are also planned.
The group's promotion companies, Hunosa Empresas and Sodeco, will have approximately 27 million euros to act as regional development agents, financing business projects expected to generate around 700 jobs by 2028 and marketing industrial land on former mining sites.
