The Henares University Hospital, a public center of the Community of Madrid, has organized a special event for the International Day of Older Persons, celebrated on October 1st. The initiative, driven by the Geriatrics Service, seeks to raise awareness about the importance of healthy aging and the early detection of fragility.
Throughout the morning, Geriatrics Service professionals will conduct functional assessments on the 0 floor of the hospital. Activities include the "Timed Up and Go" (TUG) test to evaluate mobility and fall risk, and the SARC-F questionnaire, which detects signs of sarcopenia or loss of muscle mass and strength associated with aging.
Specialists will also provide personalized information and recommendations on healthy lifestyle habits, physical activity, nutrition, fall prevention, and maintaining autonomy, which are key factors for active aging and a better quality of life.
This event aligns with the hospital's commitment to the needs of older adults, a significant patient group. The hospital works to promote prevention, early detection of fragility, and the preservation of functional capacity, crucial for maintaining independence longer.
“"Aging healthily does not depend solely on the absence of disease. Staying active, taking care of nutrition, preserving muscle strength, and preventing falls are essential elements for maintaining autonomy and well-being over the years."
