The Mayor of Madrid, José Luis Martínez-Almeida, has delivered the 5,000th affordable rental home promoted by the Municipal Company of Housing and Land of Madrid (EMVS Madrid) during his tenure.

The new Cañaveral 8 development, located in the El Cañaveral neighborhood, has been handed over to its recipients, adding 96 public rental housing units. This initiative is part of the municipal effort to increase the stock of accessible housing in the capital.
The mayor highlighted that 5,000 affordable rental homes have been delivered since he took office. The Cañaveral 8 promotion involved a municipal investment of over 19.2 million euros. The average rent for these apartments is around 550 euros per month, not exceeding 30% of family income.
In El Cañaveral, EMVS Madrid has completed 1,123 of the 1,212 projected homes. 80% of the housing in this neighborhood is allocated to young people and families with minor children, facilitating their independence and access to suitable residences.
The Cañaveral 8 development includes 96 apartments with two, three, and four bedrooms, some adapted for individuals with reduced mobility, along with parking spaces and storage rooms. New tenants access these homes with incomes up to 3.5 times the IPREM.
The Madrid City Council consolidates itself as a national benchmark in public affordable rental housing, managing over 10,000 public flats and with nearly 5,700 in development, according to data from the Observatory of Housing and Land.
