Hikers and runners being rescued in the Madrid mountains due to adverse weather conditions.

The High Altitude Rescue Group (GERA) of the Madrid Community firefighters had to intervene this Friday in the Cotos area to assist several hikers and runners who were caught by wind and snow.

The rescues took place at different points in the sierra, specifically between Laguna de los Pájaros and Cotos. The operation was carried out in collaboration with Forest Agents and Summa 112 personnel, who worked together to ensure the safety of those affected.
The rescued individuals encountered extremely adverse weather conditions, and some of them lacked the appropriate equipment to cope with the prevailing snow and wind in the area. Fortunately, all were in good general condition, although several showed mild symptoms of hypothermia.
The emergency services of the Community of Madrid have taken the opportunity to reiterate the crucial importance of checking the weather forecast before embarking on any mountain route. They also emphasized the necessity of always carrying the appropriate gear for the planned activity.
