The railway company has announced a significant increase in frequencies and double-composition trains on practically all commuter lines to facilitate travel for attendees of the scheduled events in the capital. Over a million people are expected to attend some of the main events.
Key events include a prayer vigil at Plaza de Lima on Saturday and a Holy Mass at Plaza de Cibeles on Sunday, with an estimated attendance of 1 to 1.5 million people. Other events will take place at the Santiago Bernabéu stadium, Ifema, and the Movistar Arena.
For Saturday, an increase of over 540,000 seats is estimated, 35% more than usual for a weekend, with reinforced station staff and reserve trains. On Sunday, frequencies will be similar to a weekday, adding 580,000 extra seats.
Due to the crowds and for security reasons, temporary restrictions and closures are expected at stations such as Recoletos (no stops on Sunday until 2:00 PM), Nuevos Ministerios, and Sol, as directed by security forces.
In addition to the commuter rail reinforcement, the Avant corridors (Valladolid/Segovia-Madrid, Toledo-Madrid, Puertollano/Ciudad Real-Madrid) will increase their offer by over 13,000 seats. The Madrid-Extremadura regional trains will add 740 seats, and a special AVE charter train will operate for participants of the Youth Ministry of Valladolid.
Renfe has implemented a comprehensive information system, including its website, app, station screens, public address systems, signage, and social media, along with enhanced security with 290 guards and 300 customer service and cleaning staff.
